Gear Up Career Days - Sept. 30 - Oct. 1, 2008

The Utah Department of Workforce Services estimates between 2008 and 2014 there will be over 19,000 new manufacturing positions. The demand for engineers, machinists, welders, electronic technicians, and other skilled professions is at an all time high. It is no secret that generations of junior high and high school students are unaware of the lucrative career opportunities waiting for them in Utah’s manufacturing sector.

To increase awareness of the jobs that are available in manufacturing and meet the demand for qualified workers in the future, Gear Up Career Days was organized to educate youth and adults about all the possibilities that the manufacturing industry has to offer. This unique public-private partnership will bring students, education, and industry together in an exciting two-day event that will introduce some 2,000 high school and junior high school students to career opportunities in manufacturing through tours and hands-on interactive exhibits. Students will come from school districts in Salt Lake, Davis, Weber, Ogden and Morgan counties.

On September 30, high school students will tour two manufacturing facilities and participate in hands-on activities supervised by industry professionals at the Davis County Events Center. On October 1st, junior high students will learn about manufacturing by participating in the hands on activities at the event centers. Each student will receive a career kit, information about careers in manufacturing, and the opportunity to network with employers.

In order to have a successful event funding is imperative. Sponsorships, Tours sites and exhibit opportunities are available. Please click the sponsorship tab to see how you can play a role in changing the lives of thousands of children throughout Northern Utah.
